Father’s Day weekend 2017, camping at Bridal Falls campground

For the Father’s Day weekend, we made a pretty last-minute decision to go camping. We had just picked up our new tent (the REI Kingdom 6 – this thing really is a kingdom compared to our last tent) the weekend before, so we thought we’d see how the kids handle camping in a tent at 13 months.

We haven’t had the kids out camping since we took them to Jones Lake when they were 12-weeks old. We wanted to keep fairly close to home so that if things didn’t go well, we could be home in a couple hours. Katie saw that there were tenting sites available at Bridal Falls, just past Chilliwack, so we double-checked the weather forecast and booked it.

On Saturday we took a drive up Hwy 1 past Hope to get a good nap in and stopped at the decommissioned Alexandra Bridge for a quick lunch and a short hike. I’ve seen pictures of this bridge for a while and wanted to check it out. It was a great day for a hike; not too hot, so we didn’t have really cover the kids up. Colin and Addison enjoyed the little hike in the TwinGo carrier, and really like being out in the trees. Lots of things for Addison to point at.

After getting back to the campsite, we rushed down to the pool for a quick swim, but ended up staying in the ‘family hot tub’ – a lukewarm hot tub that was a nice temperature for the kids since it was a bit chillier than we would have liked.

We did have mostly good weather, but it did start raining late Saturday evening and through the night; which we had planned for. Lots of time playing in the wide-open tent,

So we packed up fairly early Sunday morning and headed home. Overall, a successful trip and the kids had fun and were the stars of the campsite (no surprise there).

The kids didn't seem to mind eating in a different environment; lots to look at as the people walked by.

Happy Father's Day to me! It was great to get out and have a real campfire (before the summer campfire bans start).

Early Sunday morning in the tent, probably close to 6:30am. I think the kids had already been up for an hour while we did our best to rest a bit while they played. We're glad we packed their extra sleepsuit covers...

We also wanted to try out the kids new Pea Pods; little tents that they sleep in with built-in padding. They zip closed so that they can't wander off without making a bit more noise. They like playing in them as much as they liked sleeping in them.

Father's Day morning in the tent with my cuties. Note the flashlight Colin is holding; he's ready for camping.

A little video of the kids playing with each other in the tent; love their cute little laughs when they get going together.
